Methodological and Conceptual Problems and Issues in Attribute x Treatment Interaction (ATI) Research

Une douzaine de problèmes d’ordre méthodologique ou conceptuel reliés à la recherche sur l’interaction attributs-traitements (ATI) sont abordés dans cet article : l’impossibilité de contrôler les variables organiques; les intercorrelations entre les variables organiques elles-mêmes; le choix que l’on doit faire entre les mesures réelles ou perçues de l’environnement; la classification et la mesure des caractéristiques de l’environnement; la décision d’utiliser des attributs et des traitements définis soit en termes généraux soit en termes spécifiques; la nécessité hypothétique de conceptualiser en termes comparables la personne et son environnement; la question à savoir, la recherche ATI devrait-elle être théorique ou non théorique?; l’importance des interactions ordinales ou non ordinales; la détermination des seuils de signification des interactions; l’impossibilité de différencier entre les régressions inter et intra-classes d’une part, et les régressions sur les traitements d’autre part; le fait de ne pas tenir compte des traitements intermédiaires. Somme toute, il semble n’y avoir aucune raison substantielle pour abandonner l’approche ATI. Au contraire, cette approche pourrait fort bien s’avérer la pierre angulaire pour établir définitivement la complexité interactive des déterminants du comportement et marquer un pas décisif pour le développement de la psychologie en général.
