Enseigner à penser: passer de maître à mentor
Keywords:
Pensée critique, Mentorat, Pensée dialectique, pédagogiqueAbstract
The North American revival of general education shows widespread belief that graduates’ minds should not just be stuffed full of knowledge but also be well formed. More and more, teaching means teaching for thinking, and hence the growing interest in critical thinking. But few recall that Montaigne was thinking of the teacher, not the student, when he made his famous remark. This article offers reflections on thinking and on education for critical thinking, then asks the educator what sort of intellectual and personal development would foster aptitudes and attitudes required in knowing how to think. Should we teach magisterially, listen in the style of the facilitator, or guide as a mentor would do?
