Abstract

A digital competency framework was created, based on competency statements developed from interviews with school principals in Quebec and the analysis of professional competency frameworks from different countries referencing digital technologies. To ensure this digital competency framework reflects the perceptions of principals, it was submitted to a sample of 14 school principals who were asked to express their level of agreement with 160 statements in a two-round Delphi study. The study results showed that the majority of proposed statements reached a moderate to high consensus among participants. Participants’ comments indicated that non-consensus on some statements was primarily due to shared responsibilities related to digital technologies. Future research could propose the framework to a larger sample to increase result validity or use it to conduct interviews or focus groups to deepen the understanding of the significance of the digital competency for school principals.
